This morning we started our day with a dough project. We made salt dough and practiced kneading and then rolling it into balls. When the balls were all rolled we used a straw to poke into the center of the ball to create beads! We'll let them sit for a few days to dry and then we'll go home with some beautiful necklaces.
Today for group time we read the story "The Mitten" about a little boy that looses his mitten in the snow and the many forest animals that find the mitten and decide to squeeze themselves into it to stay cozy and warm during the cold winter night. When the story was finished we each became one of the forest animals as we put on a paper mask and hid among the forest. I read the book again to the children after they had gotten into their characters and this time when their animal came up in the book they got out of their hiding spot and climbed into the "mitten" a big blanket in our classroom. When the mouse tickled the bears nose the bear had a giant sneeze and the animals all flew out of the mitten. The children of course LOVED this part of the story!
After our play was finished we sang "The Mitten Song" and made a paper mitten with scraps of fabric and paper. We also made a chart and discussed whether the children had ever made a snowman. The children put a cotton ball on the "yes" line or the "no" line and we counted how many children said yes, and how many children said no. Then we counted the total number of children that answered the question.
Our lunch menu is chicken nuggets (we only get chicken nuggets a couple of times per year so this is a big treat for everyone!) Corn, and peach and milk.
****This morning we signed up for a Thursday fieldtrip! We will be leaving here at 10:00am to go to the Olmsted County Historical Society to experiece "Hands On History". Please leave carseats here in the morning. Since this trip is really for older children I will be staying home with Elia and AJ and Ryan will be taking the children on their trip. They will return around 12:00. I will be available on my cell phone and Ryan will have his cell phone- the 358 number is his if you need to contact either one of us during that time.
