This weather is driving us crazy! It's been so cold today. When it's windy like this, our old house doesn't stay as warm as I'd like it to be.
The children didn't seem to notice or care though. We spend the morning having free play time. The boys and little kids played with the train set and blocks for quite a long time while Anna and Kennedy and I worked on finger knitting. Tanmay, Isaiah and Miel gave it a shot too but gave it up pretty quickly. Some of the children have such tiny fingers it's difficult to knit on them, but they made an effort, and we'll try again another day and see if we get further along.
Ryan read the children a great Irish fairytale book called "Fiona's Luck".
We've been talking about the color green for St. Patrick's Day so our art project today was using the eye dropper to drop different shades of green onto a coffee filter. The eye dropper is such a great fine motor skills activity!
While some of our friends worked on their art project the others worked on our new matching games. We just got the eeboo "Life on Earth" and "Preschool Numbers" matching games and the children loved working together to find the matches. Kane worked on finding the matches and then lined them all up in a row when he was finished. He was so proud of his work!
When everyone had finished their art project we sang "The More We Get Together" and played a good manners flash card game. Everyone loved this! The cards give different situations such as, "What should you do after you receive a gift?" or "At the table when you would like another helping, what do you say?" or "After a meal is there something you can offer to do?" After each question the children's hands shot up and they took turns giving the correct answers. They didn't get any of the questions wrong, even when I tried to stump them! I made up a few of my own scenarios and asked the children to give me a "thumbs up" if my story was polite and a "thumbs down" if my story was NOT polite. They did so well with this I couldn't believe it! We have some VERY polite kids in this class!
We still aren't quite sure what we'll be doing this afternoon. This morning it was too cold to go outside and I haven't checked the weather yet so that might be on the list of things to do. Otherwise we'll move the shelves and tables out of the way and do some active games and dancing and possibly another art project if we have enough
time.
*** We are collecting old candles to be reused in one of our future projects. Any color/size will do. If you have any that you aren't using anymore please bring them by we'd love to have them! Thanks!
