Today was a fun rainy day! We enjoyed going on a rain walk. We look for signs of spring everywhere we go. Our yard is starting to show a tiny bit of green along the side of the house and the birds are singing all over the neighborhood. We didn't see any worms today or find any flowers but we think that the rain is a good thing that will hopefully bring our flowers back to the garden!
We read the book "The Rainbabies" a sweet and magical new fairytale story about a couple that is touched with the good fortune of a moonshower and finds 12 tiny babies in their yard. They take the infants into their home, lovingly care for them, protect them from dangers born of water, fire, and earth, and refuse to trade them for a valuable jewel. For this they are rewarded, by Mother Moonshower herself, with a real baby girl in exchange for the tiny rainbabies. The children hung onto every word and loved looking at the beautiful pictures and imagining caring for 12 tiny babies- small enough to rock to sleep in a wooden shoe!
After our rainy day story we had some free play time. The children played with blocks, and with the rainbow glass stones and took turns making umbrella paintings by using the "splatter" paint method. When the umbrella's were finished they looked like they had blue raindrops on them!
On rainy days we get to watch movies if we have time so the children watched part of "12 dancing Princesses" while lunch was being prepared.
For lunch we had our friendship vegetable soup, bread with butter, apple and milk. We had a new friend come today, Josie. She is visiting for a few days and is 5 years old. She is a sweet girl and Anna and Annie were happy to have another girl their age to play with!
We had yoga class after lunch and practiced balancing as we talked about how the days and nights are now balanced and equal. The children surprise me with their ability to balance- they are so strong!
After yoga we read two books, "Amy Loves The Rain" and "Rain Drop Plop". Then we said our goodnight poem and got tucked into bed for our rainy day rest.
Hopefully we'll play outside a little bit when we wake up if the wind isn't too terribly cold, have some free play in the classroom and get out the free art materials.
