Happy Earth Day!

What a beautiful sunny spring day for our earth day celebration! This morning we started our earth day festivities by each making a melted crayon earth. We are excited to find out how they work on paper, most of us have never colored with a green and blue round circle shaped crayon!
We had a long outdoor playtime outside today and then came inside for lunch.
Our lunch was peanut butter on English muffins, carrot sticks, strawberries, and milk. We had a candy kiss for desert. When we were finished with lunch we sat out on the front step and waited for Carol, our music teacher to come. We had a really fun music class today! The theme was Dora the Explorer! We started music class by singing the alphabet and working on letter recognition as we put together an alphabet path for Dora and Boots to travel on. Then we ran into swiper the fox who was stealing fish from the pond! We stopped swiper and made sure to count all of the fish as we added them to the pond again. Next we got our rhythm sticks and worked on tapping to build a bridge for Dora and Boots to use to pass over the pond. Finally we marched down the alphabet path all the way to rainbow land. There was a huge party waiting for us at rainbow land so we got out our scarves and danced to "celebration". It was so much fun! Everyone was in a great mood so we packed up after music class and walked to the flower shop. We wanted to buy something in honor of Earth Day for our garden or yard. We ended up buying quite a few vegetable plants and some pretty purple flowers to be planted around the tree in our front yard. The children really loved looking at the flowers and vegetables and reading about how to take care of each plant. They learned that some plants grow best in shade and some grow best in full sunlight. In our garden we mostly have shade plants because as soon as our big oak tree has it's leaves our yard is almost completely shaded all day long. It's great for people but not so great for growing things! I'm sure we'll make many trips back to the flower shop to buy seeds or flowers or just to look at the amazing amount of flowers and plants all summer long.
