We started out the day with free play again mainly playing with our new wooden dinosaurs and the little felt gnome home. The train set is also an everyday activity especially for the younger group.
At group time today we decided on naming our two classes rather than calling them "little kids" and "Big Kids" because really everyone in this class is a "big" kid. We decided on Oak Tree's and Acorns. So now when we split up to do different activities we can call the Oak Tree's and all of the oldest preschoolers and school aged children come. They enjoy their new names! The Oak Tree's take their job of helping the Acorns very seriously.
Today we worked on pouring the glass stones as an activity. Jackie, Elia and AJ were the first ones to try this activity and they loved it! They worked so hard on keeping the stones in their individual cups and took turns pouring their own cup full of stones into their friends cups. Unfortunately my camera was out of battery at the time but it was adorable to see the way they took turns and enjoyed feeling so grown up with a fun activity.
Next the Oak Tree class had a turn at pouring stones. They practiced scooping them up with a ladle and pouring them into cups.
The other activities that were out this morning were a color matching spring egg/spring colored puff game and a weaving activity with a pine cone and spring colored yarn. When the children had finished each activity they had quiet reading time to read some bird themed books before getting ready to go outside.
For group time we read the story "One Little Chickadee" and then sang our "Little Bird" song and "Spring Is Coming".
The children played with gardening tools outside. They have really enjoyed "digging" up our yard this spring! I can't wait until they can REALLY dig it up and plant some flowers and plants!
This afternoon we have a fun activity planned. Making bird nests! I will post the activity with recipe directions and photos on a new post later today. We can't wait to make them and then EAT them! :)
Our lunch menu today is rice noodles with organic tomato sauce, spinach salad with strawberries and grapes and raspberry vinaigrette all organic and milk.
The children LOVE noodles and were happy with their salad! They were surprised to see fruit on top of their salad because normally we have veggies on top instead.
For snack we are eating our bird nests! :)
