We started this morning by observing our tadpole and naming her, we decided on Sally as her name! It fits her perfectly. We made a chart examining the difference and similarities of human bodies and tadpole bodies and passed around Sally's food so we could all get a good look at it.
Next we moved onto planting! Most of our activities of the day had to do with planting. We read the book "Zinnia's Flower Garden" and then prepared our "root viewer" soil. The soil has to sit over night, so tomorrow we'll be planting carrot, onion and radish in our root viewer so that we can watch what happens above and below ground when vegetables and plants are growing. We will be documenting the growth of the root viewer plants in our "root viewer journal" as well, just like our tadpole growth journal!
We got our coats and boots on and went to the front yard where we planted our purple flowers that we got from the flower shop on Earth day. We've been so busy that this is the first chance we've had to plant them! We each took turns digging holes and covering the bottom of the flowers with soil. The children saw roots up close and personal while planting the flowers and while digging the holes. They love working with tools and doing "adult" jobs, so they especially enjoyed working on planting the flowers.
As we finished up with the flowers we had some free play time in our play yard. The children realized that there are lots of creature that grow under tree bark and they started ripping the bark off of our tree stumps to find out what was under them! They had so much fun collecting little creatures and showing them off to their friends. We took some pictures of the "cute" little guys to show the mom's and dads- because I'm sure you all want to see them! :)
Some of the children wanted to help plant some flower seeds in a flower box in our play yard so they helped me put the seeds in the soil as the others played.
Our lunch menu is macaroni and cheese, sliced turkey, a 1/4 bagel, and, green beans, apple slices and milk.
After lunch we will see Ms. Carol for music class! This week's music theme is Body Parts.
After music we are going to do the puppet play Fair Rosa again because it was so much fun yesterday. Then we'll say our nap time poem, read a nap time story, sing good night to each of our friends, and say our goodnight poem
A star for you to wish on
The sun so warm and bright
The moon for you to think on
Sweet dreams and goodnight!
and we might sing our siesta song too before we lay down and close our eyes for a quiet rest before our afternoon activities start.
