We had a nice relaxing morning today. The Oak Tree class worked on building a fort with the play logs, while the Acorns worked on practicing their balancing on the balancing log. We played some tug of war and watered our garden.
The wind was pretty crazy this morning so we came inside two by two to do art at the dining room table. Our art project also doubled as a math project as we tried to count the number of dots in each of the circles on the paper butterflies wings. We practiced making a mirror image of the dots on our butterfly wings. This was a hard concept for some of the students but they enjoyed trying to paint inside the circles with the cotton anyway.
After our painting project our music teacher Carol came to teach us instruments, singing and movement. Our music theme of the week was up and down and orchestral conductor. We started music class by learning some sign language alphabet letters and then got out our egg shakers and shook them to "Shake Freeze". Next we got out our streamer sticks and moved them to "Mover Music Jump Up" Then we watched a short video of an orchestral conductor so that we can see what happens when he moves his baton up and down. To end our day we took turns being the conductor of our band as we played our favorite instruments "upside down".

After music class we had lunch- macaroni and cheese, cheesy broccoli with rice, peas, apple and milk.

When we were finished with lunch we washed our dishes and put them away and got ready for nap time. For nap group time we talked about the life cycle of a butterfly and put our butterfly figures in order from egg to butterfly and named the steps of the life cycle together. Next we practiced the sign language word for butterfly as we said our butterfly poem-
Butterfly
Flutter by,
Butterfly,
Floating flower
in the sky.
Kiss me with your
Petal wings---
Whisper secrets,
Tell of spring.

Then we said our good night poem, sang goodnight to our friends and gave butterfly kisses to everyone, and got tucked under our blankets for a quiet rest. Our afternoon activities will be finishing up our butterfly paintings and playing out on our playground until it's time to go home.
