A Busy Fun day!
This morning we had an impromptu dog grooming and care lesson- as the children were very interested and we were available to teach them. They all gathered around Mollie the dog and watched as I taught them how to brush her body and her head carefully and gently. We learned that we should act calm around dogs, and to never sneak up behind them or get too close in their faces- as some dogs don't like that (our dogs don't mind but some do!). We learned that dogs need to have baths and get their teeth brushed just like humans do and that they need regular Dr. visits at the Veterinarian and sometimes even get shots like we do.
We had a turn to brush and pet Mollie and watched Lulu play fetch with her basketball before Ryan put them back upstairs for their rest time.
We had music class after our outside time and then had a quick lunch of peanut butter or cheese sandwiches, yogurt, corn and milk before getting our field trip dresses and shirts on and catching the city bus. Our original plan was to visit the pet store to learn more about caring for animals but after riding on the bus for a while we realized that this wasn't our usual route and we were not going to stop directly in front of the pet store like we were used to. So we headed downtown and decided to go to the free entertainment at the library instead.
McGruff the dog was there with his nephew Scruff along with a police officer. We watched the movie "Officer Buckle And Gloria" and talked a little about safety- especially outdoor safety, like crossing the street only with an adult, and wearing a bike helmet. The children had a fun trip and weren't too disappointed that we didn't go to the pet store- instead they got to see great BIG dogs! Everyone loved riding the city bus and walking through the skyway. We even took a picture of one of the beautifully painted skyway windows. We had a chocolate chip cookie and sang the wheels on the bus before getting on the bus to go back to school again.

We got many comments about how beautiful all of the children are, and I have to admit I DO have the most beautiful class I have ever seen- and I've seen lots of classes!!! They also of course got tons of compliments on their behavior and one lady asked if they were always such wonderful listeners- Jayme was the only one that would admit that they weren't always such good listeners- but for the most part they really are! it was great to get out and go on an adventure and it turned out to be a fun time even though it didn't go quite as we had planned.
