What a fun day we had today! We started with outdoor play time. We have enjoyed raking the leaves and building forts with our logs on our playground lately.
Then we had music class with Ms. Carol! We were so excited to see Carol because she has missed the last two weeks of music with our class! Our theme during music class this week was Halloween. We learned to sign "Happy Halloween" then we tapped our skeleton bones (rhythm sticks) to the song "The Witch Doctor". After that we reviewed the finger play "5 little leaves". Next we got out our ghost zappers (streamers) and danced to the song ghost busters. To end our music class we got out our favorite instruments and played them to the song the monster in the closet.
When music class was finished we joined together in the living room for a story by the fire. Today we read the book "How many seeds in a Pumpkin?" We learned so many pumpkin facts! Did you know that a pumpkin is not a vegetable it's a fruit!? We also learned that even though some pumpkins are really big, it doesn't mean that they'll have more seeds than a smaller pumpkin. To find out which pumpkin has the most seeds there are some clues to look for. A pumpkin with a darker color orange, and more lines around the outside probably means that it has more seeds in it! Each line around the outside of the pumpkin equals a line of seeds on the inside.
Each friend took a turn pulling the pumpkin guts out of the pumpkin and we squealed with joy while we felt the cold squishy goo! Dru especially loved playing with the pumpkin guts!
After we each had a turn we split into two different groups and had a contest to see which team could separate the most seeds from the pumpkin guts. Everyone did really well, I think it was a tie! We plan on roasting the seeds and having them for a snack on Halloween.
We took a vote and decided to make a happy face on our pumpkin. Ryan carved a great big smile and triangle eyes and nose- it turned out just perfect!
