We had a fun field trip to Quarry Hill today! It was too cold to go out on the trails ( 8 below 0 when we checked!) We enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels in the bird feeding area and exploring the many activities on the touch tables. The volunteer worker at Quarry Hill even took the cockroach from Madagascar, the salamander and the millipede out of their habitat and let us get an up close look at them. We got to pet the cockroach too! One of our favorite activities was using the big microscope and checking out the owl and the snowshoes.
We practiced identifying different animal furs- muskrat, mink, skunk, opposum, fox, etc. Then we finished our field trip by going into the little nature library and reading some nature books about winter in Minnesota.
Our younger preschool class will be going to Quarry Hill soon, so if your child did not get the chance to go today they will be going in the next few weeks. We LOVE Quarry Hill! If you ever need a place to take your children in cold/snowy/rainy weather check out Quarry Hill! It's usually never very busy and there are always new and exciting things to discover!
