This is the little boy our class is raising money for during our "Kids Walking Kids Home" walk. Isn't he beautiful!? His adoption will hopefully be completed this year. His parents have already been waiting a long time for him to come home, the process in his country is a long one! He is living in SE Asia and has been waiting for a family for 6 years! He lives in a wonderful orphanage, but nothing can compare to having a family! He will be coming home to two little sisters and an older brother and a really great mom and dad. We are so excited for their family and can't wait to see this little one FINALLY get a family of his own.
After this spring break week we'll be working on some bake sales and lemonade sales and will just be doing these things as a class after nap time (usually the children leaving Folwell love to buy a snack from us right after school!) Last year we made over $60.00 at one lemonade stand! The children were so proud of their little lemonade stand, it was adorable!
If you guys want to bake items for our bake sale at home and bring them in that's totally great, if not that's fine too! We'll be making a few things as a class and selling some store bought stuff as well. It's really not a huge deal- the most important thing the children learn from this class activity is that it's better to give than to receive. The children learn that there are children less fortunate than themselves and that we should do what we can to help others. (We also get in some money management, counting, adding, subtracting, and social skills just by having lemonade stands and bake sales!) It's a great class project!
