Today we learned about some special things our bodies can do. We know they can move, and stretch and dance! But we didn't really know that our hearts pumped blood, and that blood vessels carried the blood all over our bodies. We didn't really ever think about how special our skin was either! Not only is it a beautiful and unique color, It also protects us from infection and other stuff! Our bones protect important body parts too- like our heart and brain, and they hold us up and keep us standing straight! Without bones we'd be a floppy mess!
We read a lift the flap book about our body parts and got to see the outside and inside of our body. It was very interesting to the children. We also got to use a real stethoscope to listen to our own hearts beating and our lungs breathing- that was VERY cool!
We tried to take our own pulse but that was kind of tricky to do! When we went outside today we did lots of fun races from the big pine tree to the tree stumps back and forth. When we were finished with our racing we took note of our heartbeats and breathing-both were much faster than they were before when we were listening to our story!
We talked about a few ways that we can keep our bodies healthy and strong, and being active and excersing was one of them. We got LOTS of excersise in today between outdoor races, yoga class, practicing the monkey bars (did anyone know Kroix can do the monkey bars by himself! Pretty good for a 4 year old!)and playing chase we were active almost the whole day!
Lunch was whole wheat flat bread, carrot sticks, ham, apple slices, swiss cheese slices, and milk.
