We read and tell stories to the children all the time, sometimes using props, sometimes using our imagination. Stories from my childhood are some of my favorite. Those special old garage sale type of books that you just can't find anymore are so magical. They're much different than the commercialized cartoon character books that are so common today. It's amazing to see my daughter enjoying the books that I enjoyed, and to see the wonder and awe in the preschool children's eyes as we read our very special books. The books still hold a certain magic in them as they did years ago, and hopefully will keep the magic in years to come!
I recently found this wonderful website The International Children's Digital Library and have been exploring it ever since. There are tons of books online in all different languages, styles, and subjects, some dating back to the 1800's. The old books are my very favorite. It's so interesting to me to read these old children's books and look at the illustrations and know that my great grandparents could have been reading these books when they were children. The book pictured above was copywrited a few years before my great grandma was born, and tells the exact same story we read in today's version of "The 3 Little Kittens". The illustrations are adorable.
Check out this website! I think you'll find some wonderful stories to read/tell to your children, and it's free!
