We have had the greatest day EVER! We started the day by playing drip drip splash! I was surprised that everyone handled getting a glass of water poured on their head really well such great sports we have in our class! Sophia surprised me the most- that silly little girl loves water! She totally understood the game and loved playing with her friends, even when they splashed her. Everyone had at least a couple of turns being the "drip drip splash" person. When we were finished with that we talked a bit about fire safety and then carefully chose our "fire chairs". We sang a bunch of campfire songs and roasted marshmallows for smores and had some free play time on the playground while some of our friends helped chop the carrots and potato's for our stew. We had lunch around the fire and played a couple rounds of telephone. Now that was hilarious! The first game was way off, but the second actually worked the message got around to all 12 kids and came back to me perfectly! I couldn't believe that Dru, Elia, and Sophia could pull off a game of telephone! They were right in the middle of the line so obviously they each correctly told the next person the sentence. It was really cute! We all cheered when the sentence game back to me!
After everyone finished lunch we brought our flash lights downstairs for some spooky stories. I read the book " The Barenstein Bears and the Spooky Old House" and then told a few made up stories that included the children as characters. I think this was one of the highlights of the day, the children LOVED it. They huddled together under their blankets holding their flashlights waiting for the "scary" part...sooo darn adorable!
After many scary stories and some flashlight time we went back outside and chose our tents. We divided the children by big girls, boys, little girls, and Sophia ended up with her own tiny tent which she was VERY thrilled about! We're having a good rest time in our tents.
Our snack today will be banana's sliced and wrapped in tinfoil with chocolate chips and mini marshmallows melted a little bit in the fire- yummy! We've had a wonderful camp out day- everyone should have a backyard camp out at least once during the summer!
