Our hearts are open wide
Light streams deep inside
The sun and moon and stars shine on everyone
On Earth we stand
Giving all our hand
Good day dear friend good day!
Birds are in the air
Stones are on the land
Fish are in the water
We are in creators hand
Our nature table
If your child finds a special fall nature item feel free to bring it in for our nature table.
These leaves were found on our rainy day walk yesterday. Over on the left side of the photo is "Miss Suzy" in the basket. Our little acorn gnome friends are in the middle, and the great bark and pine cones found at the nature center are in the background.
Our great apple choppers. I can tell Milan's had some practice chopping apples at home!
These two got the hang of it pretty fast! It's tricky trying to figure out how to hold the knife (they were using butter knives!) and put enough pressure on it to cut the apple.
Sophia decided that chopping apples wasn't nearly as fun as eating apples
Yesterday our school age friends didn't get any time to play outside so instead of making apple muffins we went to Folwell to run and play. Today we had the chance to make and eat our apple muffins! The children worked on chopping up the apples while Ryan added the ingredients to the bowl. Then each child got to sprinkle some cinnamon on top of the apples before put them into the oven. While the apple muffins were baking we made a apple seed graph and counted all of the apple seeds we found while we were chopping. We also practiced listening really carefully as we followed a 3 step direction on our apple coloring sheet.
Lunch was vanilla yogurt, hot dogs, tomato, carrot sticks, and apple muffins! The apple muffins turned out yummy!
For group time we read the story "Miss Suzy" about a little squirrel that lives at the top of the old oak tree. Her house is taken over by some mean red squirrels so she finds a little doll house to spend her winter in. It's very sweet and one of our very favorite fall stories. It's fun to be able to share the books that I read as a child to the children, Elia is especially fond of Miss Suzy!
Tiny Miss Suzy came to visit our story time as we sang "Little Squirrel In A Tree" and played the squirrel guessing game, trying to figure out where our little squirrel friend was hiding.
Then we practiced our group time poem (the one at the top of this post), sang good night to each of our friends and snuggled into our blankets for a rest.
This afternoon we plan on playing at Folwell again until pick up time since our playground is being remodeled a little bit.
Don't forget your Vegetables on Monday for Vegetable Soup Day! I'll have the children make a "Bring Vegetables" note to hang on your refridgerator at home next week as an easy reminder.
