This morning our wish for snow came true as we had a couple of inches of snow overnight. The children talked Ryan into taking them outside earlier than usual this morning to go on sled rides across the yard. Ryan gets quite the work out as he's pulling 4 or 5 kids FAST around and around through the yard. Even Elia who is usually NOT thrilled about rides enjoyed herself (probably because her very sweet friend Anna was holding her on her lap the whole time)
When the little ones got cold everyone came back in and sat down for group time. We started group time with our usual good morning song and days of the week and then we read a book about Frosty the snow man and followed up by dancing to the frosty the snow man song. We made paper plate snowmen faces for craft time today and spent some time doing free play. The children played so nicely today! I LOVE watching them use their imagination. They really get along amazingly well. After the children had some time at free play I asked them if they would like to continue with free play time or would like to bake rolls for snack with me. 1/2 chose free play and 1/2 chose baking, but they all ended up making their way to the dining room table to bake with me- with a spotless clean playroom before they came up! They are excellent cleaners and they always check to make sure that everything is in it's correct place.
We had a lot of fun adding ingredients, mixing, kneading and making the dough into little balls ready to be baked.
Lunch was almost ready but we had a few minutes to kill so we practiced writing with our little chalkboards. Some of the children practice lines or shapes and some practice writing letters.
lunch today was grilled cheese sandwiches, peas, and tomato soup. We very rarely eat grilled cheese sandwiches so the kids were pretty excited about this meal and were done in about 10 minutes! We quickly washed and dried the dishes and put them away and went downstairs for music class.
The theme of the week for music class was snow. We learned the sign language words for "snow" and "cold". Next we reviewed our colors in sign language and warmed up by shaking our egg shakers to "Frosty the Snowman". Then we learned the finger play "Snowflakes". Next we got out our animal puppets and learned the song the chubby little snowman. Then it was time to get our bodies moving to the "Rock and Roll Freeze Dance". To end the day we played our favorite instruments to a "Snowy Medley."
After music class we each pick one book and find a quiet spot in the classroom to sit and read while Carol packs up her instruments and teaching tools. The kindergartners went upstairs to finish lunch and the preschoolers helped get sleeping mats and blankets out to prepare for nap. We then sang our story time song and lit our candles and read our next chapter of Junie B. Jones. Either this chapter was hilarious or everyone just had the giggles but anyway it got a lot of laughs!
Then we said our goodnight poem and got tucked under our blankets for a nice rest.
The children are looking forward to eating their rolls witih honey when they wake up from nap.
