Tuesdays are baking days at First Discoveries.
This morning we tried a new recipe and made Oatmeal-Carrot muffins.
Anna and Kane enjoyed grating the carrots and Milan and Ronan enjoyed measuring and mixing the dry ingredients.
Everybody loves baking day! Anna remembers all of the recipes we've made in the past and tells us what ingredients we used for what and how we mix or knead the dough depending on what we are making.
After our activity we had group time and read the story The Gingerbread Man again. We also practiced measuring different classroom objects with our one inch cubes. We learned that Milan's hand is 4 inches long and Anna's hand is 5 inches long! We measured some of the classroom books and counted all of the cubes it took to get around one of the big books, it was a lot!
Since we didn't do our Monday soup yesterday we all came upstairs after group and activities to help prepare the soup. The little boys cut broccoli, Annie cut up the celery, Anna cut the potato's and Kane cut the onion. The children are really proud of their work, they work really hard! Our lunch menu today is home made friendship vegetable soup, brown rice, muffin, grapes and milk. Yum!
After lunch we will spend some time outside running and playing Gingerbread Man Tag. I'm sure Ryan will need some strong helpers to carry the garbage down the driveway. Then we will come in for a quiet story and rest time. We plan on finishing our day by writing and illustrating our own Gingerbread Man story.
I thought this was sweet little video clip of another Waldorf style preschool class baking bread. Ryan and I usually both have our hands busy while we're baking or creating something so we haven't had the chance to video tape yet. Watching this you can imagine the fun and learning involved in each baking project. It's an activity for all of the senses.
