This morning the children enjoyed playing fire fighters again. They really love this activity! They have great imaginations. I love that they are remembering all of the things that the fire fighters and I have taught them about emergencies while they are playing. There is no better way to learn than to play!
We had planned on making our vegetable soup as our Monday activity this morning but since most of the children forgot their vegetables we decided to watch a movie instead. We will have our regular vegetable soup day TOMORROW. I know that Monday's are a hard day to remember something extra. The children and I will work on a picture of vegetables as a reminder for their refrigerator or kitchen area at home so that everyone can remember. Soup day is a really fun and educational activity but we can't do it without everyone participating. Vegetable soup doesn't taste very good with only one or two vegetables in it!
To start group time we came together and sang our "Good Morning" song and then we read the book "The Gingerbread Man". The children helped say the Gingerbread Man's part "Run Run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!"
They really liked it and I anticipate many more Gingerbread Man games and activities in the near future. We also read the book "Give that back Jack!". It's one of our favorite books as it's predictable and silly and has a surprise ending.
For our group time activity we played a game of animal charades that had everyone giggling and laughing with joy. We have some great actors in our class, and some wonderful guessers as well!
After our game we sang the song "Make new friends" and we walked around our circle holding hands. This is one of the children's favorite songs and we sing it often, especially if a new friend joins us or an old friend leaves us.
To calm down we played the "quiet and still game" Everyone finds a quiet place to rest and has to keep their body completely quiet and still. If they make a noise or a movement they are out and go to sit at the table until the game is done. The last person still on the floor is the winner. Today we had 3 winners, Anna, Annie and Arhan. I think they could have stayed quiet and still for a really long time!
For lunch we had cheese ravioli and peanut butter sandwiches and banana with milk.
Tomorrow will be soup day. We will save the vegetables that were already brought today for tomorrow.
After lunch we all got our mats and blankets out, went potty and joined together to sing our story time song and light our story time candles.
We read two chapters of Junie B. Jones and then got tucked into our nap mats and said our good night poem for a nice peaceful rest.
We plan on making paper gingerbread men today with glue, crayons and other fun decorations. Having snack and playing outside to end the afternoon.
