This morning we worked on a couple of different activities. We practiced tying knots and we made soft pretzels sticks for this afternoons snack. For group time we read the book "The After Christmas Tree". It's about a little girl that is sad to see the holiday season over so quickly. Her mother comes up with an idea to make it last a little bit longer by putting their old Christmas tree in the yard and decorating it with popcorn, berries, nuts, and seeds for the birds and other little creatures. This is especially fun since we still have quite a few weeks of winter left here in Minnesota. The children will be working on different bird feeders and treats and will be decorating our front tree this week and next week to make our own "After Christmas Tree".
We also read the book "Winter Lullaby" a beautiful picture book that tells about the animals that seem to disappear during the long winter months. The bees, snakes, mice, bats, and even the humans? Where do they go to stay warm and cozy?
The children know all of the answers and find it so interesting to think about all of the animals in their hidden warm places all winter long.
This afternoon we plan on making peanutbutter bird feeders, practicing some spanish songs, eating our pretzels, and dancing to animal action and freeze dance to get a bit of a work out before heading home for the evening!
Our lunch menu today was spagetti, corn, garlic bread, grapes, a slice of cheese and milk
