Dance like snowflakes,
dance like snowflakes
In the air, in the air
Whirling, twirling snowflakes
Whirling, twirling snowflakes
Here and there, here and there

Our theme this week is snow and ice. We started out the morning by singing our regular good morning song and talking about which day of the week it is today. Then we read two books about animals that live in snow and ice and sang our snowflake song. We also practiced a listening game about colors. Each child was given one of the color cubes and we sang the color song, each time the color was said the child had to either stand up or sit down. This took some good concentration and careful listening ears! For our group activity we "painted" the table with shaving cream. This is a favorite winter time activity for everybody, we don't do it a whole lot since it's pretty messy, but when we do it everyone thoroughly enjoys themselves! The children were quite creative, making different shapes, letters, and textures in the shaving cream.
After our shaving cream activity we got everything cleaned up and had a few minutes of quiet reading alone before we went upstairs to get ready to go outside. During outside play we rode in the sled, made paths in the snow and played with snow shovels and other gardening tools. We love the new fresh snow that has made our playground bright and white again rather than brown and dull.
During our playtime we collected a small bowl of tightly packed snow, fluffy snow, and ice. We plan on leaving the bowls out on the table for the afternoon to observe which bowl will melt the fastest.
Our lunch menu today is beef lasagna, carrot sticks and yogurt with milk, snack was trail mix and milk.
