Bluey Bluey Blue Bird Flies Away!
This morning we started our day outside. We thought it looked like it might rain and we wanted to have some time to play outside before the rain came. After our outside time we came in for group time. We played a bird guessing game as a group and read a book. Then I taught the children the finger play "Bluey Bluey Blue Bird". They really enjoyed that!
When group time was finished the children were able to play with our spring matching game with a partner, read books quietly, play with toys or do a Spanish coloring sheet or tissue paper sun catcher egg. The children have really enjoyed playing with the Fantastic Blocks by Spiel and Holz Design. They use their imaginations to make the blocks become anything and everything you could ever think of. Today they lined them up along with the Tree Blocks and the different pine cones we have available and made a huge square using everything together! Then they played with the dinosaurs making different area's for each to live and play and eat. Some of our dinosaurs are vegetarians and some are meat eaters- ask the children which is which. The dinosaurs have quite their own personalities and somehow all of the children know each dinosaur. So funny!
For lunch rather than our friendship soup we had "friendship" quesadilla's with all of our vegetables included. The children devoured this so fast we had to keep making more more more! We also had apples from Kennedy and AJ and milk to drink. It was a great lunch. When lunch was finished we worked on washing our dishes and putting them away and then we got ready to go outside. Instead of having yoga class inside we thought we might try it outside. I think the children enjoyed themselves- a change of scenery is always nice. The children have been working on headstands with their yoga teacher Rachel and just started working on beginning handstands today. They are strengthening their arm muscles by working on practicing "wheelbarrows" with a partner. The Oak Tree's helped the Acorns with this and we plan on working on it more when we go outside again.
After yoga class we finished up our coloring and tissue paper egg projects and quietly read on our sleeping mats until we were ready to come together for our goodnight story. Today we sang/read the book "I know An Old Lady That Swallowed a Fly" The children love this story and love to sing along with me. We also practiced "Bluey Bluey Blue Bird" a few more times and taught it to Arhan since he was at kindergarten when the other children learned this.
We said goodnight to each student by name and got tucked under our blankets and then said our good night poem before we took our quiet rest.
When we wake up we'll have a snack and play outside until it's time to go home.
**We're still looking for candles if you have any old used candles you don't need anymore please bring them over! We have gathered quite a few so far so hopefully we'll be able to do our candle project soon!
