Rainy Day Fun

This morning we went on a rainy day walk around the neighborhood. We love starting the day with a walk, it gets some of our energy out and everyone has a better day when they've had some fresh air to start their day. After we came in we had a short group time as we read the story "Rain Drop Plop" and we played a color game with our wooden eggs and we practiced sounding out the written words for all of the colors. The children did REALLY well with this! I was so surprised that even the 3 and 4 year olds could figure out which word they were looking at by thinking about the sound of the letters that were on the egg. I think we will play this game again later today as a group and then the rest of the week it will be a quiet alone activity to use during activity time.

After group time had a popcorn movie party in our playroom! We only do this a couple of times per year so this was a really special fun time. The children spread out their sleeping mats and we passed out a snack of popcorn and pretzels to everybody and we snuggled together to watch part of the movie "Bedtime Stories". We didn't get to watch the whole thing because we had to eat our lunch and get ready for yoga class! The children were bored with it by that time anyway.

Our lunch today was veggie quesadilla's, strawberries, carrots, and milk. The children eat quesadilla's like crazy, I highly recommend them! You can hide any kind of veggie in there and they eat it right up!

After yoga class we said goodbye to our yoga teacher and gathered for our story. This time we read a few short verses from "A Child's Garden Of Verses" and we also read the story "I know An Old Lady That Swallowed A Fly". Then we stood in a circle and practiced our new poem that we are memorizing before bedtime. Then we sang goodnight to each of our friends by name and got tucked into our blankets for a quiet rainy day rest.

Today we got our last new shipment of toys in the mail. The woman that made these beautiful toys sent us many extras as a surprise so we actually have 2 pirate ships and two sets of pirates, two unicorns and two of the king/queen sets! They are awesome! What a perfect thing for a rainy day! We'll be spending our afternoon playing with our new toys and possibly playing outside depending on what how the weather is. If we have time the oak tree class we will be writing and illustrating an imaginary story that includes the new toys as characters.

Our snack menu today is cottage cheese with grapes and milk.
