I can't believe I have to say this again, but we had ANOTHER field trip flop today! As we got closer to the Miracle Mile we realized that it didn't look like much was going on! There were no bounce houses, or trains, or characters in costume :( They did have the sidewalk sale going on but this is the first year in the 6 years we've been going to "Crazy Dayz" that they had no children's activities. We were really bummed because this is usually one of our summer field trip highlights. The children didn't mind too much because we got freeze pops, and got to visit "Grandpa Greg's office" The older children have been visiting Grandpa Greg for years. They always get a little treat every time we go to visit and they love chatting with the ladies that work there. We went to the little park near Sargent's flower shop for a little play time before going back home. The boys spent the entire time jumping from the climber to the sand. The little ones played in the sand, and the swing, and the girls played all over the place too. On the way home we let them out of the stroller and had them run/walk after we got passed 2nd street. They LOVE racing each other all the way home and it's great practice to keep everybody on the sidewalk, walking between the white lines when we cross the street and paying close attention to Heather and Ryan. They did really well.
As we walked along the bike path I stopped the children and had them check out their shadows! We don't get much of an opportunity to really discover our shadows because there are so many tree's lining our sidewalk. The children got a kick out of shadow dancing and looking at the difference between their own shadows and their friends shadows. It was pretty cute! We are planning on following up with shadow dancing by making a shadow puppet theater box, we're so excited!
