We sure had a busy day today! The school aged children had an early release day, so that means no afternoon kindergarten and 1st graders came back from school really early.
Shortly after they came back we realized that there was a leak in the basement and that our poor preschoolers were laying on wet carpet at nap time! Goodness!
We had to quickly strip them down and get them in clean clothes for our visitors- a police officer and a fire fighter came to visit our school today!
It was very neat ! The fire fighter told us all about the equipment he uses and dressed in everything from his air tank to his mask. This way if we ever need help from a fire fighter we won't be afraid, because they do look kind of funny with all of their stuff on! He told us about the kind of training the fire fighters go through. Of course we had to practice our "Stop Drop and Roll" song, and our "Smoke Chant". We know our fire safety!
The police officer showed us his bullet proof vest, flash light, and hand cuffs and told us about some of the jobs that he has to do. Then, he brought his retired police dog in to visit with us. The children thought this was so great! He sat so nicely and performed tricks for us! After checking out all of the equipment and watching the dog we got on our boots and coats and went out to check out the police truck.
The children really enjoyed this! They got to sit in the vehicle and check out all of the equipment inside- a camera to see into the backseat (where the bad guys sit!) a computer, and tons of buttons. We also got to pet the dog and pose for pictures with him.
We asked a few questions and said thank you got a police escort back inside our school where we had snack and watched a movie (because the basement was full of water still!)
It was a good, busy day. We are so thankful for our special Police Officer and Fire Fighters that have helped us learn how to keep ourselves, our families and our homes safe. We've learned very valuable lessons these last couple of weeks! I think all of us want to become fire fighters and police officers now!
